As you may or may not know, female rats wiggle their ears when they're in heat, particularly if they think they might get some.

We got the first few episodes of The Muppet Show from NetFlix, and watched a couple last night.

These two statements, in a sane world, would have nothing to do with each other. But Fozzie Bear wiggles his ears when he thinks he's just been funny, and it is freaking me out.

(Also, Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street made a special appearance in the second or third episode. As a kid, I always figured they were brothers, but after this little performance I understand the alternative view completely. I guess my subtext detectors didn't grow in until later in life, like wisdom teeth. Ernie's a manipulative little snot, and Bert's bisexual. I didn't know that. Did you know that?)

I still maintain that Ernie is monogamous with Rubber Duckie. Just read the lyrics to the Rubber Duckie song sometime. (I will, however, admit to not having seen the Muppet SHow episode in question.)

Possibly there's some sort of hierarchical scheme -- Ducky is of course "the one", but perhaps that simply means the primary, or the beloved, rather than the only one at all. There is clearly something going on between Ernie and Bert, but it could be defined as secondary, or as just a physical thing rather than a love thing. It's not a healthy relationship for Bert in any case; Ernie is very bad for his self-esteem.

Someday, when Bert wises up and leaves them after a huge fight, with dish-throwing and destroying of Bert's collections and cries of "Of course I don't really love you! No-one could love you! You're neurotic and your eyebrow looks stupid!", Ernie will replace him without any further thought, while Ducky looks on, quietly chuckling to itself.
