DNS servers and why I hate them

Something out there in the world has broken our e-mail. The websites we run off the same server are fine, but e-mail is not getting to us, and hasn't for the last few days. I am mightily annoyed, but andres_s_p_b (also known as Tech Support) says there is nothing to be done but wait for it to fix itself.

I feel that surely there must be some human agency involved somewhere, that can be yelled at to fix the problem or at least blamed to release steam, but this does not appear to be the case.

Oddly, e-mail from my work account or my hotmail account gets to me fine, but pretty much nothing else seems to be able to find us. I had one piece of spam this morning, as opposed to the usual 15 or so. I can send e-mail just fine, but when anyone tries to send me something, it bounces with a note that mapache.org does not exist. At least individuals sending me things can tell there's trouble, but I haven't been getting comment notifications and I really hope I'm not missing any important e-mail from the things I have set up to bill online.

Growl.

Ears

As you may or may not know, female rats wiggle their ears when they're in heat, particularly if they think they might get some.

We got the first few episodes of The Muppet Show from NetFlix, and watched a couple last night.

These two statements, in a sane world, would have nothing to do with each other. But Fozzie Bear wiggles his ears when he thinks he's just been funny, and it is freaking me out.

(Also, Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street made a special appearance in the second or third episode. As a kid, I always figured they were brothers, but after this little performance I understand the alternative view completely. I guess my subtext detectors didn't grow in until later in life, like wisdom teeth. Ernie's a manipulative little snot, and Bert's bisexual. I didn't know that. Did you know that?)

Okay, seems to be improving....

My mom sent another test e-mail just now (after establishing that e-mail from her was bouncing last night), and it made it!

Tiger Spot: Interesting. I hope that's a universally good sign, and it's not just you. (Although even if it is just you, that's still better than nothing!)
Mom: it's fixed -- I can feel it in me bones
Tiger Spot: I dunno; there's no spam yet.
Mom: jeez louise
Tiger Spot: I'm not used to spam being a *good* sign, but it does at least come in reasonably regularly and can therefore be used to diagnose receiving problems.
Mom: you wouldn't be happy if they hung you with a new rope

Therefore, if you have had something bounce, now would be a good time to test whether it's still bouncing. Andres' work e-mail has found us again too, so the problem may in fact be fixed, or in the process of fixing itself. ::crosses fingers::

Housewarming Party

Will be April 7th, because we finally have a couch!

If you live close enough to be interested (Mountain View, CA) and you know I exist, send me an e-mail and I will tell you where. My goal is to figure out how many people fit in the house exactly, so consider yourself invited even if we've never met before (unless you send really creepy e-mail).
