My knowledge of "Scarborough Fair" is limited to Simon and Garfunkel, I'm afraid. I believe they do four verses. "Greensleeves" I've only ever seen the first verse of.

Simon and Garfunkel do a very nice Scarborough Fair. I only added the verses past the ones in their version recently, when I needed a longer lullaby.

Do you need more lullabyes? Lately I've been thinking about the ones I remember my mom singing to me--one that starts "Bed is too small for my tiredness" and one that starts "Baby's boat's a silver moon, sailing through the sky." The words are online for both of them, and I could sing the tunes to you sometime if you wanted.

I have a pretty decent lullaby repertoire, but more never hurt!

Argh it is not displaying the zeroes properly. Pout.

Yeah, I was just noticing that.

Apparently LJ is in disbelief over anyone not knowing a single verse to these songs!

Does "What Child is This" count?

I shall leave that to your discretion. I don't think of them as the same song, myself. (I only know 1 verse of What Child Is This.)

...verses, you said. I read "versions." *facepalm*

Huh. A lot more people know a second verse of Greensleeves than I was expecting. I wonder if it's all the same second verse?

Also, what is this 3-verse version of Scarborough Fair? With the verses I know, either 2 or 4 is a fairly natural stopping point, but 3 isn't at all.

I think the version in the song book we use in my voice class has the first verse, then the "acre of land" verse, and then "love imposes impossible tasks" and that's it.

My answer to question two is "however many verses Simon & Garfunkel did, because I can't remember the others well."

And oh, I just looked again and this time I found the words to Greenstamps! For years all I've been able to remember was the first verse and the chorus (which, to be fair, is all I remember of the original song as well).

Ha, that's cute. Asparagus tips indeed!
